Introducing...

I introduce to you myself! Rebecca Stemwell, currently a k-12 Art Teacher with MPS. I remember watching my dad paint and I was so amazed at how this paste like "thing" could make such beautiful pictures. That is truly when I fell in love with art. Art was always a way for me to be able to express myself emotionally. I have always worked with kids my whole life whether it was daycare (currently I work here in the summer), camps, or even helping in my church. I knew once I got to college, I wanted to use my passion for art to help kids. My professional goals for the future include so many ideas. One big goal of mine as an art educator is to be able to have my students use art to express their emotions and find some sort of escape to their troubles. So many of my students have had a lot of tragedy in their life at such a young age. I want them to be able to come to school and use my art room as a safe space for them to express themselves. One other goal is to create an art program in my school that students will remember. My school has not had an art teacher in almost three years until I was placed there. I want to expand our growth in our arts program and have my students be recognized for their work through the district and administration. My goals can be big, but my passion for this field can help make them achievable. When I am not teaching or planning you can find me, my hunny, and my two cats spending quality time. I love anything and everything Harry Potter. Pretty sure I watched the whole series and read the books about seven times this year alone. I love to go concerts, festivals, and be outdoors. I hope you find this blog enjoyable, happy reading!

  1. Hi Rebecca,

We got to introduce ourselves in class, but it was great to learn more about you through this post. I'm inspired by the goals you have for your students and wholeheartedly agree that creative outlets like art can be helpful for students who experience trauma and tragedy. As an aspiring English teacher, I hope to use creative writing as a means to help my students.

I'm also a pretty big Harry Potter fan! I actually got to go to Harry Potter World in Universal this past spring break with my family and had a blast! The butter beer was as delicious as expected.

  2. Hi Rebecca! It was a great to learn more about you through your blog post and I look forward to reading more in the future. That's incredible that your school went for so long without an art teacher! Art is so essential, and study after study proves that students who have access to art education do better in school in almost every metric. Also, the picture of your cats is too precious.
